Abstract

This cultural study entitled “The Culture of Religious Festivals in the City of Mata Grande-AL” deals with the cultural practices that are part of the daily life of the Matagrandense community. In order to interpret the phenomenon of religious festivals and the experience that devotees experience in this sacred territory, it is clear that the profane and the sacred are structured in the same space. Therefore, maps of the city were prepared to show the differences in the paths taken by the devotees in the processions during the closing of these festivities, both in the Feast of the Patroness Nossa Senhora da Conceição and in the Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Santa Teresinha. These religious festivities organized in these two Catholic temples and promoters of religious mobility attract devotees from various places in Brazil to the city of Mata Grande, so this work presents information about this cultural expression.
