The present study sought to analyse the nature of the peace in which Mozambique is embedded within the process of democratisation and political participation for the promotion of reconciliation and peace. The adopted methodology was qualitative, with a hermeneutic approach, allowing for an interpretation of the country’s political and social practices, as well as investigating the meaning attributed by different actors to the concept of peace. Through the analysis of texts and historical documents, it was possible to understand the complexity of the Mozambican context. The main conclusion of the study is that peace in Mozambique is predominantly characterised as a conditional and imperial peace, sustained by fragile agreements and a reliance on external interventions. The consolidation of democracy and the inclusion of all voices in the political process remain limited, reinforcing the need for deeper reconciliation processes. Only by overcoming structural inequalities and strengthening institutions will it be possible to achieve lasting peace, in line with the principles of fraternity and social inclusion proposed by Fratelli Tutti and the Sustainable Development Goals.
