Abstract

The objective of this article is to comprehend in a reflexive way Severino Ngoenha's thought in the sixth part of his book Mondlane-return to the future, which discusses the hypotheses about Mondlane, with a view to bring reflection on how to rescue Mondlane's ideals for the reconstruction of Mozambique. The book was published in 2019, in a context of great uncertainty because Mozambique is(was) on the “high seas” again, as Julius Nyerere stated–the sea of internal conflicts, hidden debts and the invasion of terrorists in the north of the country. The construction of this review was based on the hermeneutics of the book in question. With “Return to the Future” it is understood as rebirth, in this case, going to the past to seek Mondlane's ideals to reflect and examine the present and project a pleasant future for Mozambique. In the book, Ngoenha intends to rescue Mondlane's ideals and use them as inspiration in solving current problems in order to build better Mozambique. When reading this book, it is clear that the author's thinking is to reuse the aggregating, dialogical and consensus spirit of Mondlane to the (re) construction of Mozambique from the (re) conquest of peace, democracy, reconciliation, progress and well-being of the people –objectives for which Mozambicans have fought for decades.
