This research aims to analyze the impacts of land use and occupation on the Gruta do Magé Geosite. Specifically, it seeks to identify existing land uses and occupations and to carry out a preliminary characterization of the flora of the study area. To achieve these objectives, the walking method of Filgueiras et al. (1994) was used. The results indicate various signs of human activity, such as the presence of pastures, deforestation, solid waste on the trail and the dispersal of invasive species, resulting from practices such as agriculture, tourism and recreation. Despite these threats, the preliminary characterization of the flora reveals a remarkable wealth of vegetation on the rocky outcrop and its surroundings. The significant contribution of biogeography in inselbergs stands out, especially in the analysis and protection of biotic and abiotic elements. This approach involves understanding the interaction of these factors, the distribution of species and defining means for conserving biodiversity and geodiversity in these areas. Thus, the research not only highlights the challenges faced by the Magé Cave due to human activities, but also underscores the importance of integrated approaches to preserving these unique ecosystems.
2024-03-28T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal Semiarid https://journalsemiarid.com/index.php/ijsa/article/view/229 ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT: INTEGRATED DIAGNOSIS OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT OF BISSAU ISLAND/GUINEA-BISSAU 2024-06-06T16:32:13-03:00 IDRISSA DJOLÓ idrissadjolo@yahoo.com.br EDSON VICENTE DA SILVA cacau@ufc.br MARIA RITA VIDAL ritavidal@unifesspa.edu.br
This article presents discussions on the Integrated Diagnosis of the Geoecological Context of the Island of Bissau, within the scope of environmental planning and management. The objective is to provide debates that can bring results on the integrated diagnosis of the geoecological context of Bissau Island, contributing to the definition of integrated Environmental Planning and Management strategies for this geographic region. The methodology used is based on the theoretical and methodological approach of Landscape Geoecology by Rodriguez, Silva and Cavalcanti (2017; 2022), and by Vidal, (2014); Vidal and Mascarenhas (2020); as well as in field research, bibliographical research, remote sensing, digital cartography and georeferenced topography. The discussions highlight the need to understand the interaction in the physical-biotic environment of Bissau Island, analyzing the relationships between the abiotic components and the components of the biotic environment. The results of the study made it possible to characterize the natural environment of Bissau Island, and highlighted the geomorphological and geological conditions, as well as the hydro-climatic conditions and soil conditions. They also made it possible to identify and delimit the natural environmental subsystems and geoecological subunits of Bissau Island through the characteristics of the geomorphological regions of Guinea-Bissau. It is concluded that the geoecological diagnosis can meet the needs of a strategic vision of planning and long-term territorial environmental management, as well as the lack of geoecological (landscape) studies capable of suggesting planning and territorial management strategies on the Island of Bissau.
2024-06-07T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal Semiarid https://journalsemiarid.com/index.php/ijsa/article/view/200 AN EXPLANATION OF THE CONCEPT OF LANDSCAPE WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE RAIN PROPHETS IN NORTHEAST BRAZIL 2024-03-27T15:09:52-03:00 Eliê Regina Fedel Marques elieregina@gmail.com Helder Aurelio Gomes Liberado helderliberato@hotmail.com Maria Elisa Zanella elisazv22@gmail.com
In the hinterland of Ceará, marked by a semi-arid climate and the scarcity of rainfall, the Prophets of Rain emerge as important figures in the search for predictions and hope for rainfall. These prophets, often using empirical methods and observations of the environment, developed knowledge and practices related to climatic conditions and agriculture. Therefore, the main objective of this scientific work is to understand if there is a correlation between the practices of the rain prophets in northeastern Brazil and the geographical concept of cultural landscape. The present research is classified as exploratory, using data of a secondary nature, with its approach of a qualitative nature, and having as a development technique, the bibliographic review supported mainly by periodicals and books on the theme in question. Despite the acknowledgment of heritage sites such as Cedro Novo, the article notes the inadequacy in addressing the local social body's challenges, including unemployment, silencing, and restrictions on cultural expression. Through the application of the Inventário Participativo within the community, the project aims to facilitate a horizontal discourse on heritage, contributing to the strengthening of identity and autonomy of expression for the community.

Keywords: Heritage inventory; culture; Heritage cultural; Quixadá; Ceará.
2024-03-27T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal Semiarid https://journalsemiarid.com/index.php/ijsa/article/view/210 MASSES OF PERIPHYTIC DIATOMS IN AN INTERMITTENT STREAM FROM THE NORTHWESTERN REGION OF CEARÁ 2024-03-27T19:00:36-03:00 Francisco Valdir da Rocha Filho filhorocha140@gmail.co Julia Silva Oliveira juliasilvoliveira@gmail.com Bianca de Freitas Terra bianca_freitas@uvanet.com Kaoli Pereira Cavalcante kaoli_cavalcante@uvanet.com
In the Brazilian semi-arid region, aquatic ecosystems are predominantly intermittent, playing a fundamental role in maintaining the biodiversity of this region. Diatoms (phylum Bacillariophyta) are microalgae common in aquatic environments, serving as a crucial foundation for the food web and thereby influencing the dynamics of the entire limnetic community. In a study on local biodiversity and its responses to hydrological dynamics in intermittent streams of the Acaraú River basin, we observed a filamentous mass of periphytic algae that covered almost the entire surface of the substrate in one of the sampling points. The aim of this study was to identify and characterize the occurrence of the mass-forming algae. Samples were collected monthly over five months (May to September 2023) in a permanent stream section (100 m in length) from Mata Seca stream, Sobral-CE. Environmental data were sampled along with manual collection of the algal masses. Dense masses occurred during the flood period, with the average stream depth was 10.2 cm, fast-flowing water (few slow-flow areas), and mainly on sand and gravel substrates. Microscopical observations showed that filamentous masses correspond to diatoms forming long ribbon or zigzag-shaped chains spp. Pleurosira laevis, Eunotia didyma and Eunotia pectinalis. These diatoms were found downstream in the same stream, but in smaller quantities and without mass formation. The occurrence of these species is relevant for distribution and autecology data. Additionally, the high biomasses indicate that upstream parts of the streams are important growth points for these algae, ensuring the possibility of their dispersion throughout the entire watershed.
2024-03-28T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal Semiarid https://journalsemiarid.com/index.php/ijsa/article/view/230 AGROECOLOGICAL DIMENSIONS IN THE NOVA ESPERANÇA COMMUNITY -SÃO MARCOS INDIGENOUS LAND, PACARAIMA/RR 2024-06-06T17:57:56-03:00 Rosimeire de Queiroz Lopes rosimeiredequeiroz2012@gmail.com Márcia Teixeira Falcão marciafalcao.geog@uerr.edu.br Plínio Henrique Oliveira Gomide pliniogomide@uerr.edu.br
Indigenous peoples have always sought to use their relationship with the land in order to achieve sustainability. The seeds used in this trial were collected from plants in the district of Varjota dos Machados in the municipality of Sobral-CE, in May 2023. The work was conducted at the Plant Health and Seeds Laboratory, at IFCE - Sobral campus. The biometrics of fruits and seeds were determined in a sample of 100 units, from this sample, taken at random, the following were determined for the fruits: weight (g), length (mm), diameter (mm), number of seeds per fruit (SpF) , seed weight per fruit (PsF), and chemical attributes (°Brix and pH). For the seeds, the following were evaluated: Seed weight (g), length (mm), width (mm), thickness (mm). After collecting the data, they were tabulated in the Microsoft Excel® spreadsheet, where the means, lower and upper limits, standard deviation, variance and coefficient of variation were obtained, the data were expressed in Tables and Graphs. The average weight of the fruits was 0.42 g with average dimensions of 8.91 mm in length, 7.76 mm in diameter, presenting a single SpF, average pulp yield of 331.45, °Brix of 13 and pH of 7.47. The average dimensions of the seeds were 5.07 mm in length, 3.31 mm in width and thickness, while the average for the weight of a thousand seeds was 0.02 g. It is concluded that insulin fruits and seeds present genetic variability and potential for future studies of the species. Regarding the germination of insulin seeds, a high physiological potential was observed, with a germination rate of 96%. Therefore, exploring processes to encourage the use of innovative and low-cost technologies in rural areas is crucial, especially for the rational use of water. In recent years, the Government of the State of Ceará has invested in Rural Extension Projects that benefit rural inhabitants. In this regard, during a training session for the implementation of an agroecological system in the municipality of Madalena, Ceará, in 2022, approximately 25 family farmers learned to make micro-sprinklers using lollipop sticks for incorporation into an irrigation system. After the manufacturing process, the sprinklers were inserted into tertiary hoses with the help of a rudimentary tool made from a piece of wood and a nail, and the irrigation system was turned on for 15 minutes to check its functionality. Farmers realized that the effort was worthwhile and were impressed by the efficiency of the homemade sprinklers. Some mentioned that they would use the micro-sprinklers not only in Madalena but throughout their irrigated production, as they found that they could reduce irrigation system costs by replacing commercially bought sprinklers with lollipop stick alternatives. In conclusion, rural extension is fundamental in the process of rural development and agricultural activities. Additionally, the acceptance of efficient and low-cost technology by farmers in Ceará suggests that such measures should be widely disseminated as a simplified and appropriate solution, especially for the water deficit in the region.
2024-04-08T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal Semiarid https://journalsemiarid.com/index.php/ijsa/article/view/220 BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION: AN ANALYSIS OF THE MOTIVATIONS OF OWNERS OF PRIVATE RESERVES, CEARÁ 2024-04-08T14:52:13-03:00 Andréa de Sousa Moreira andrea.moreira@sema.ce.gov.br Jader de Oliveira dos Santos jader.oliveira@ufc.br
The Private Natural Heritage Reserve - RPPN is a conservation unit created privately on
the initiative of owners who voluntarily decided to protect biodiversity in the long term.
The results of this study, based on data from official government platforms, interviews
and visits to the RPPN in Cariri and Sertão dos Inhamuns, created between 2014 and
2021, present the main reasons for the creation.
2024-04-08T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal Semiarid https://journalsemiarid.com/index.php/ijsa/article/view/218 THE IMPORTANCE OF SOIL MAPPING FOR THE PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT OF GEOGRAPHIC SPACE.
